River Sarayu enriched that land. The capital of the Land of Kosala was Ayodhya. That city had been founded by Manu, a descendant of the Surya Kula. A descendant of Manu was Dasaratha. That king had become famous by protecting the Devas in wars. Any culprit in the country was suitably punished. Many wise men and ministers were accommodated in his Parliament. Dasaratha ruled the land justly. His subjects lived happily without grievances in his regime. Dasaratha had three wives: Kousalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi. No children were born to them for many years. Yaga and the birth of children. To redress the grievance of childlessness, he raised the Aswamedha Yaga as per the Vedas. His yaga horse was sent to many lands.
